Jobs in Canada on a Working Holiday Visa

07/08/2024

Stepping outside your comfort zone, you've decided to fly to Canada on a Working Holiday Visa. Whatever your initial motivation (learning English, discovering a new culture, escaping the Belgian routine), you'll need to support yourself once you arrive. Below are some job ideas for when you're settled in the Far North (which is very snowy in some areas).

First and foremost, the initial step towards your dream job is job assistance . This partner of visavacancestravail.be is located in Vancouver (west coast) and will give you access to a database of paid jobs. Tourist attractions, festivals, fast food, cleaning, construction, maintenance, catering, clothing stores, supermarkets, or hotels… No need to worry, job opportunities are available to everyone.

Job assistance will also help you obtain a Social Security number and open a bank account. At any time during your stay, you have access to our partner's premises so you can check your emails, conduct a new job search, ask for advice, etc.

But Canada is best known for its wide open spaces and snow-capped mountains, and is sure to appeal to winter sports enthusiasts. So why not work there?

Indeed, it's possible to work at a ski resort during the winter season. This is  , offering you one of the best experiences of your life. By choosing our Whistler activity  package , we help you plan your trip and find a job well before you arrive in Canada.

If you are looking to experience the most exciting adventure in a Canadian ski resort, our agreements with Whistler resorts are your best option.

Let's come down from the snowy mountains now… Do you have a diploma in construction or paramedical fields, for example? It's possible to put it into practice! A great way to stay skilled while supporting yourself.

Good to know: March and November are the best months to find a job in all the sectors mentioned above and many more. And if you have a sweet tooth, you can combine several jobs at once.

As this country is bilingual, you will be able to apply in both the English-speaking and French-speaking parts.

Before you get carried away, make sure you have obtained your Canadian visa.  Obtaining one is more complicated due to an annual quota limiting the number of working holiday visas for Belgians (the quota of 750 in 2018 was exhausted after only a few months). Therefore, don't leave it to the last minute if you wish to apply.  By clicking here , you can check the real-time status of available visas.

Tips: Check this website regularly, especially from late August/early September (Canadian immigration sometimes adds visas to the Belgian quota; this was the case in 2017 when 150 visas were added in September), but most importantly from late October onwards to monitor the opening of next year's quota. You need to maximize your chances if you want to obtain your visa and apply as soon as it opens. Even though it's no longer on a "first come, first served" basis, you have a better chance of being selected if you register as soon as the quota opens.

If you decide to travel with your best friend , there's a good chance one of you will be selected in the lottery and the other won't. We're speaking from experience. It's frustrating, but there's nothing you can do about it. Especially since whoever is selected will only have 10 days to complete their visa application and provide the required documents. In other words, you won't have time to wait for another round of invitations hoping that you or your friend will be chosen.

Tip: If you're truly passionate about Canada and you're not selected in the first few months after the quota opens, nothing prevents you, as many have done before you, from going to either Australia or New Zealand and perhaps trying your luck for Canada from there. If you are ultimately selected for Canada, you can then apply for a second year on a working holiday visa. Good luck!

So what are you waiting for?
