What are the steps to obtain a Working Holiday Visa in New Zealand?

verification of your eligibility for the New Zealand Working Holiday Visa

Before going into more detail in this New Zealand Working Holiday Visa tutorial, as a reminder, in this country the Working Holiday Visa is for those aged 18 to 30 on the date of application, provided they have not already participated in the Working Holiday Visa program in New Zealand and are not accompanied by a dependent such as a child.

It also requires having sufficient financial resources to support yourself at the beginning of your stay, namely NZ$4,200 (approximately €2,300 depending on the exchange rate at the time of application), having mandatory travel insurance , and finally, meeting the required health criteria.

Start your New Zealand Working Holiday Visa application

Once logged in, go to the sidebar on the left labeled "Online Service". To begin your Working Holiday Visa application, click on the Working Holiday . You can now start filling out your application after selecting Belgium in the window that opens, and then click Apply Now .

Then carefully fill in each of the 4 categories: Personal - Health - Character - Working Holiday Specific

Please note that the Personal section includes 3 subsections : Personal Details, Identification, and Occupation Details. You are not required to complete the Occupation Details .

In case of an error message

If you encounter an error message at the end of your application, or if another "advisor" tab appears, you may have initially selected the wrong option: "yes" to the question "Are you represented by an immigration adviser?" (select "Yes" if, and only if, you are using an immigration adviser to assist you with your application). If you experience this issue, simply go back and uncheck the box. The "advisor" tab should then disappear.

Once all four sections have green icons instead of red crosses, click SUBMIT . A new page will open; check all the boxes and then click "Pay Now". Once your payment is complete ( visa cost: NZD 670, or approximately €370 ), you will be redirected to the New Zealand Immigration website. Your application will be reviewed. New Zealand Immigration will make a decision regarding your New Zealand Working Holiday Visa application quickly.

Belgium is under the jurisdiction of the New Zealand Embassy in London. You will normally receive it between 1 and 2 weeks after submitting your application.

We hope this New Zealand tutorial has served as a guide throughout the procedure.

Validation by New Zealand immigration

Most applications are processed within 25 days (1 to 2 weeks on average), but it may take longer in certain situations (end-of-year holidays, etc.). You will receive an email from New Zealand Immigration informing you that your New Zealand Working Holiday Visa has been approved. Check your spam folder.

Print your New Zealand Working Holiday Visa

The email contains information such as your "client number" and your "application number." Be sure to keep this email so you can easily find these numbers if needed.

Next, return to the immigration website, click on "Login" in the top right corner of the page, and then select "Working Holiday Scheme." In the "My Application" section of the right-hand column, you can access and print your New Zealand Working Holiday Visa. The customs officer will check it upon your entry into the country. Keep this document with you, along with your passport, for the entire duration of your Working Holiday Visa!

Extending your Working Holiday Visa in New Zealand

At the end of your Working Holiday Visa, you can decide to extend it for an additional three months if, and only if, you can justify having completed at least three months of work in the fields of horticulture and/or viticulture.

In this specific case, you are eligible for the Working Holidaymaker Extension Visa . This application must be sent directly to an Immigration office in New Zealand (it cannot be done online), along with several supporting documents:

  • The completed and signed SSE Work Visa Application NZ form (form 1153)
  • Your evidence of work in horticulture and/or viticulture
  • Proof of purchase of the return flight ticket (or the necessary funds to purchase it)
  • Payment of the required fees (NZD 670, or approximately €370)

Please note that if you purchased a return ticket through one of our packages, the return date cannot be postponed for more than one year. Therefore, this 3-month extension is only worthwhile, in our opinion, if you booked a one-way ticket and not a return. We recommend opting for a Working Holiday Visa for Australia (renewable under certain conditions).
