This program starts every Thursday of the year in Brisbane; this is the ideal arrival day to take advantage of the airport pick-up and transfer service (arrival between 5 and 8 am). If you arrive earlier, we can book extra nights at your departure hostel.
For the months of January, June and September, we advise you to book at least 6 months in advance (or even more).
December has limited availability (generally only the first week of the month)
Minimum age 18, maximum age 30 (35 for French citizens)
B1 level in English - If you lack confidence, we offer English courses that you can take once you arrive, before the start of your program.
You have relevant skills: horse riding, agriculture, welding, manual work...
You're not afraid to get your hands dirty!
You are motivated, hardworking and versatile.
You must weigh no more than 100 kilos (if you ride a horse) and you are preferably a non-smoker (many farmers fear fires)

A driver's license is an asset. Ranches are often isolated, so a driver's license is very useful. If you don't have a license, you can either ride a horse or be skilled in country motocross

Brisbane, which is none other than the capital of Queensland, will seduce you with its average temperature of 25 degrees and its big city feel.
Upon your arrival in Brisbane, our partner will guide you through the administrative procedures related to your stay in Australia. This includes opening your bank account, obtaining your Medicare card, analyzing your expectations and professional experience, and applying for your Social Security number. You will also have the opportunity to relax and get to know other participants during the self-guided activities organized by our partners.
You will begin your ranch stay in Australia with a 5-day training course that will teach you the basics of working on a ranch and in the agricultural sector. The training takes place at a ranch located in Queensland , the Sunshine State. The nearest airport is Brisbane.
• Driving and maintaining farm vehicles (tractors or motorcycles).
• Working with horses in rural areas and Australian-style riding.
• Cutting and shaping wood for fence construction.
• Rounding up herds on horseback in difficult terrain.
• Performing small outdoor tasks.
• Using specialized tools (saw, etc.).
• Teaching safety rules to follow when working in rural areas.
Once the training is complete, the on-site team will do everything possible to help you find a farm job in Australia that best suits your profile and newly acquired skills. A wide range of different jobs are available.
From jobs on a ranch or farm proper (herding livestock, stable hands, training racehorses or polo ponies, etc.) to job offers in the hospitality industry in the Outback , and even more domestic jobs (taking care of children, the garden, the house...), you will find a job that suits you.
The range of jobs available to you will also depend on your level of English and your riding skills. Finally, it's important to keep in mind that working with horses also involves general farm work.
You have the choice between:
• Start working directly
• Or travel and when you are ready to work , you contact our partner.
Job duration on average: 3 to 6 months
With cattle, sheep, pigs, camels, ponies, racehorses, on motorcycles or tractors, as pickers, in riding centers, rounding up herds, either in large ranches or smaller family properties.
Gathering herds on horseback or motorcycle, raising cattle and sheep, maintaining fences, spraying, gardening, grooming ponies and horses, maintaining agricultural machinery, sowing and harvesting, crops and many other tasks.
Teaching and babysitting, cleaning, cooking, animal care. Also, the possibility of working in a rural pub.
The jobs offered are paid, and placement on a ranch is guaranteed for anyone who successfully completes the training. Most of the jobs you will apply for are among those available for a second or third Working Holiday Visa. The support provided by our local partner is guaranteed for four months or one year, depending on the chosen option.
If you decide to embark on this great adventure with a friend, you should have similar or complementary skills and profiles. We can list these based on your preferences, but we cannot guarantee it in advance.
Most job offers are for 38-hour workweeks (on average). Some jobs offer more hours, and some employers may also offer overtime. However, since most of these jobs are outdoors and in rural areas, you should expect to work long hours, often from morning to night , and sometimes in difficult conditions (cold, rain, etc.).
This option doesn't include fruit or vegetable picking jobs (choose our paid jobs in Australia ). These jobs pay less because they don't require specific skills. There are also no jobs in cities or on the coast.
"Hi Maelle, I found a job and I've been here for 3 days. It's great, it's between Brisbane and Cairns and 2 hours from the sea. It's a cattle farm but they also have horses, sheep, dogs... I'm here with the owners (they're lovely) and another girl my age (who's been through the same thing as me) so it's quite a friendly atmosphere, which I prefer to a big, soulless factory farm. I don't have to pay rent or for food, which is perfect. I work from about 7am to about 5pm, depending on the workload. I've been here less than a week but I already love it!"
Hi Maelle,
The week is going really well, it's been fantastic. I got to feed a lamb and we went quad biking, tractor riding, horseback riding, etc. The training staff is super cool. We have different instructors for different things and they are all very kind and attentive, so it's great that I can ask lots of questions. The Visitoz staff are very nice too.
The group is great, I've made two good friends and I get along really well with everyone.
The hostel in Brisbane is amazing. It's very well located and there's a shared kitchen and a great atmosphere.
I just accepted a job offer in Melbourne. It's a job with horses (feeding and working with young horses). The woman seems really nice, and I have a little cottage all to myself. I start on Monday but I'm arriving this weekend to settle in.
Have a good day!
Yes, a visa is essential to work on a ranch in Australia. The most common visa used by young French speakers is the Working Holiday Visa (WHV) including ranch work) while having the right to work, particularly on farms and ranches. To learn more about the conditions and benefits of the WHV in Australia , see our dedicated page: WHV in Australia .
Many Working Holiday Visa holders in Australia look for ranch or farm jobs, but quickly discover that the vast majority of available positions involve fruit picking. This type of seasonal work, while widespread, often bears little resemblance to life on a real Australian ranch.
With our Ranch Work Plus Pack - Working Holiday Visa Australia , you skip this step. Our program completely excludes fruit picking and instead offers you immersive jobs on partner ranches: animal care, equipment maintenance, assisting with horseback riding, participating in ranch life… A more authentic and enriching way to experience your Australian adventure.
To find out more about the types of jobs offered, see the “Jobs” section above.
Yes, it's absolutely possible! Many ranches in Australia welcome travelers without professional experience, provided they are motivated, willing, and open to learning. The program presented on this page operates on an application basis: every criterion counts. Even without experience, a good level of English, a driver's license, and strong motivation can make all the difference.
If your application isn't successful for this program, don't panic: you can always opt for our Basic Pack . Once there, you can look for a job on farms or volunteer to gain experience and improve your English before trying your luck again on a ranch.
It's entirely possible to find a ranch or farm in Australia on your own. Some travelers use online platforms, local contacts, or social media. However, this requires some time and organization, and can sometimes lead to uncertainty upon arrival.
For those who prefer to start with a clearer framework from the outset, this program is ideal.
